The Truth About Anti Aging Natural Skin Care Products

by Julie McWright

It scared me to death to learn what I was actually putting on my skin by means of anti aging products. Ureas, Petrochemicals, Petroleum and Nanos. I was even using chemicals that are used to clean garage floors. I was suddenly transformed into an anti aging natural skin care product devotee.

Several years ago, my sons gave me a key chain fob that read, "twenty-nine and holding". Who doesn't want look and feel young forever? This worldwide preoccupation has led many, especially the baby-boomers, to search for the best anti-aging skin care items, one of the biggest and fastest growing markets in the health care industry. I must admit I fell into this pit of wanting to stay young and look good.

An important fact to keep in mind, though is your skin is your largest organ, weighing an average of 33 to 37.5 lbs. What you put on it, makes it's way into you. Yes, when you put any product on your skin, you are actually eating it. Would you eat junk food every day and expect to remain healthy? So make sure that your skin is eating healthy food, not chemicals with no benefit and which may actually do more harm.

After realizing this, I began my search for natural anti aging care. I began to ask, "what did my skin eat today?"

The truth about most skin care products is that most are based on just a few active ingredients. When you analyze these, most of the time, the active ingredients are very low concentrates, resulting in ineffectiveness. Also, most of the items are filled with synthetic waxes and fillers.

Then there are antiaging products with natural ingredients. One of the most popular products that come to mind is vitamin C based. Vitamin C is a potent water-soluble antioxidant in humans that work by enabling the synthesis of collagen. However, the effective usage of these products are short lived, as they are in danger of being oxidized themselves, when they come into contact with the air. As a result of this dilemma, items based on the derivatives of vitamin C have become more popular, as they are more stable and less expensive.

There are other anti-oxidants that are popular in some products, such as vitamin E and lipoid acid. Vitamin E is fat-soluble, found in human blood, and helps fight infections, including cancer. Lipoid acid has been shown to combat the trademarks of aging by effectively reversing skin damage. With the increase of cancer, no wonder these are so popular.

Phytochemicals are another division in the natural anti aging skin care product lineup. Phytochemicals are special chemicals that are extracted from plants that help to prevent the occurrence of certain types of cancer. With the increase of cancer, phytochemicals in products have become very popular.

As you can see the field of anti aging skin care products is extensive, needing a lot more research and discovery. New and effective products are constantly coming out as the currently available products overcome challenges, such as oxidation. This results in good news for all as these products become better, cheaper and more effective.

Now that you know this, take what you have learned and spend some time comparing anti aging natural skin care products. As you do so you will come to realize that there are many unhealthy ones out there and a small handful that are worth your skin eating them.
